RHEENENDAL NEWS - Runners from Knysna and its surrounds who are looking for more free weekly running are in luck as local organisers have put together the first-ever myrun in Knysna, set to launch at Portland Manor this Sunday, 26 February.
Similar to parkrun, myrun hosts free weekly timed events with the idea of bringing like-minded people together, regardless of fitness level.
The events are hosted every weekend and take place at many locations throughout South Africa. The myrun events offer both a 2,5km and 5km route to cater for people of different levels fitness, that can be completed at their own pace.
Portland Manor is a historical country hotel situated on a working farm located 22km from Knysna, 28km from Sedgefield and 8km from Rheenendal. Surrounded by 212 hectares of undisturbed wilderness with forests of indigenous trees and rich birdlife, the recently refurbished hotel has views across the landscaped gardens to the Lawnwood Dam and beyond to the Outeniqua Mountains.
With many activities available on site, outdoor sports lovers will have lots to do once they complete their myrun event. The hotel's newly launched restaurant, The Cowshed, is open to hotel guests and non-residents and offers country food made from local produce.
To register for myrun, visit www.myrun.org.za and purchase a timing band at a once-off fee – you must have a myrun timing band in order to attend any myrun event. After registering and purchasing a timing band, you will receive a QR code which you need to bring along to Portland Manor on Sunday.
Once you have purchased the timing band, your costs are covered and you can take part in as many myrun events as you'd like from now until the end of time. On Sunday, timing band collection will be from 07:30 and you can start your run/walk between 07:30 and 08:15.
The start area is situated in front of the restaurant, and only the 2,5km route is pram-friendly. You can also join the myrun Portland Manor Facebook group for future updates.
