Update
KNYSNA NEWS - Lily Donnell, a Grade 8 pupil at Oakhill School, became the first girl in the school's history to be selected for the Western Cape Schools hockey team.
Trials were held in May this year at Hartleyvale Stadium in Cape Town, with about 60 boys and 60 girls from the various regions making up the Western Cape attending, namely Western Province North, Western Provence South, Boland and Eden.
Four hours of round-robin matches were played before a squad of 15 players was announced, where Lily was selected for the U14 girls team.
During the holidays, the various provincial teams competed at the SA Schools Sports National Winter Games, which is run by the national Department of Sport & Recreation, and was held in Durban this year from 30 June to 5 July. The Western Cape team played some outstanding hockey throughout the week, winning all five of their games to advance through to the final, where they narrowly lost 1-2 to claim the silver medal. Lily managed to score the only goal for Western Cape in this final.
