KNYSNA NEWS - At a gala event held at the Protea King George Hotel on Friday 1 December, Knysna Marathon Club (KMC) received the prestigious award of "Club of the Year" for 2023 out of a total of 23 clubs registered with Athletics South Western Districts (ASWD).
The criteria to qualify for nominations cover a wide spectrum that includes matters such as the contribution made to ASWD by the clubs, social responsibility to the community, development of the sport, quality of events presented, and the number of events presented per club, to name but a few.
"Kudos goes firstly to the committee members who worked tirelessly throughout the year," said KMC chairperson Barry Danvers.
"Then there are all those volunteers who gave of their time and talents to ensure that the races presented by the KMC were of such a high standard.
"There are just too many names to mention but I would like to just add that the Sedgefield Striders helped enormously during the Oyster Festival with the hosting of the well-known Forest Run and the Houtkapper Trail Run, for which KMC was grateful."
At the same gala event, Lehanie Scholtz of KMC received the award for Administrator of the Year.
"We congratulate her on this well-deserved achievement that also contributed to the KMC receiving the award that it did," Danvers said.
A proud Barry Danvers with the new trophy.
"While the KMC has made enormous strides over the last couple of years, as evidenced by these awards, it accepts that there are a few areas that still require attention. These will be addressed by the KMC committee for 2024."
