KNYSNA FOOTBALL NEWS - Southern Stars won the 2021/22 Safa Eden Regional Women's League title last weekend, securing the win by one point over Lidz FC on the final day.
It was a nail-biting season from start to finish as Southern Stars, from Knysna, stayed on the heels of defending champions and consistent league leaders Lidz FC, from Plett.
But, two weeks ago, the two table-topping clubs came together to face off in Hornlee in what turned out to be the league decider. Southern Stars beat the ladies from Plett 1-0 to go one point ahead in the log standings.
This meant that ahead of the final round, played in Plett on 15 October, Southern Stars had to win their final match to walk away with the title.
Lidz beat Black Aces 6-0, putting pressure on Southern Stars, but the ladies from Knysna showed resolve and beat the same opposition 2-0 to put the winner of the title beyond any doubt.
Their victory sees them crowned the queens of Safa Eden, and on 5 and 6 November they will face off with teams from other regions of the Western Cape in the provincial play-offs in Knysna.
The victorious, league-winning Southern Stars team.
