KNYSNA NEWS - Rain played a major role in last weekend's club cricket in Knysna, with two matches rained out.
Only Pirates United's first team and Knysna Cavaliers' second team were able to complete their matches, and the latter was the only one of the two to win.
The latest round of club cricket fixtures within SWD Cricket was played on Saturday and Sunday, 10 and 11 December.
All three Knysna Cavaliers sides were to be in action, along with both sides from Pirates United as well as two of the three teams from Plett Pioneers. But, the weather had other plans.
Cavaliers and Pioneers' first teams locked horns at Loerie Park on Saturday for their first 50-over derby of the season, and got their game going. Cavaliers batted first and managed to get in 14 overs of play, finding their way to 76-3 before the heavens opened.
Hayden Sweet was on 37 not-out for Cavaliers and De Wet Goedhals claimed two wickets for Pioneers. Play never resumed and points were shared in the counter.
The following day, the fixture between Pirates B and Cavaliers C was called off before play could even begin, and points were also shared.

Pirates A vs Union Stars C
The Promotion League Division 1 fixture was played at Bridgton Sports Ground in Oudtshoorn, and the home team chose to bat first. Elridge Booysen (25 runs) and Willdré-Hano Wessels (21 runs) scored well for Union Stars, helping them reach 138 all-out. Desnovan Stroebel, Jade Titus, Theo Oelf and Roneldo van Rooyen all claimed two wickets each for Pirates.

Sadly for Pirates their batting line-up failed to find any rhythm, with only Sharlin Stevens (37 runs) scoring significant runs before they were bowled out for 79, handing Union Stars a 59-run win. James Bruiners was Union Stars' best bowler, taking five wickets for 18 runs in 10 overs.

Cavaliers B vs Pioneers B
The two sides faced off in Rheenendal, and it was the men from Knysna who won the toss and chose to bowl first. Pioneers' batsmen struggled to kick into gear, but runs from Kelvin Davids (15) and Claude Terblanche (10 not-out) allowed them to reach 72 all-out. Blake Linder was Cavaliers' bowler of the day, taking five wickets for 17 runs in seven overs.
In the run chase, Cavaliers' top order managed to chip in with enough contributions to reach the total and win by six wickets. Rickus Rosslee top-scored with 18 runs, followed by Jannie Cremer with 15 and Byron Jantjies with 13. Terblanche was Pioneers' best bowler, taking three wickets for 10 runs in two overs.
