NATIONAL NEWS - Richard Murray continued to build on his fine early-season form, while resurgent compatriot Mari Rabie put up a strong fight at the Triathlon World Cup event in New Plymouth, New Zealand on Sunday.

Murray won the men’s sprint race in 53:08.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, who was second at the top-flight World Triathlon Series opener in Abu Dhabi last month, crossed the line 20 seconds clear of second-placed Danish athlete Andreas Schilling at the second-tier international event.

Rabie took fourth place in the women’s race in 59:28, two weeks after securing the African title.

She was 37 seconds behind American winner Gwen Jorgensen and missed a podium spot by just eight seconds.
