KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna municipal council has elected the DA's Levael Davis as the new mayor and KIM's Mark Willemse as deputy mayor, following on from the election of Julie Lopes as the speaker this morning.
Davis received 11 votes as opposed to PBI candidate Alberto Marbi's 10.
Willemse likewise beat the ANC's candidate, Aubrey Tsengwa, with 11 votes to 10.
The votes came after a succession of calls for caucus during today's council meeting, with each of the six parties taking a turn to exercise their right to caucus.
The appointment of the new leadership comes three weeks after the local government elections which saw the Knysna municipal council split six ways with no party holding a majority.
