KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna municipal council has elected its new speaker this morning, Monday 22 November, during the second meeting of the new council.
The DA's Julie Lopes was elected with a vote of 11-10 in her favour, beating out the PA's candidate Beauty Charlie.
The vote came after a caucus was granted for the DA less than 10 minutes into the meeting, and directly thereafter for KIM, followed by one for the EFF.
The appointment of a speaker comes three weeks after the local government elections which saw the Knysna municipal council split six ways with no party holding a majority.
