Western Cape expecting busy fire season

NATIONAL NEWS - Sixty fires a day. That’s how many the City of Cape Town’s fire and rescue services has attended to across the Cape Peninsula over the past three days.

The municipality, along with South African National Parks, Working on Fire and other partners officially kicked off its fire season awareness drive at the Newlands fire base today.

The City’s fire and rescue services’s Theo Layne says they’re expecting a busy season ahead.

“We have an average of 245 fighters that are available 24 hours of every day, so that we can have a quick response to any type of incident.”
