NATIONAL NEWS - After two days of violent protests bringing the Richards Bay CBD to a standstill, on Wednesday saw other routes blocked with burning tyres and other debris.
Residents in Brackenham and eNseleni were affected as the R619 between the two suburbs was blocked, as was the N2 at that intersection.
Birdswood and Mandlazini residents could not leave their homes as protesters blocked the intersection with burning tyres and other debris.
A video from the area shows protesters storming vehicles which attempted to approach the intersection.
The N2 at the eNseleni rail/chicken farm was also closed by protesters, as was the N2 at Fairbreeze.
eSikhaleni is also on lockdown and the road between Meerensee and Mzingazi was blocked during rush hour on Wednesday.
In what appears to be two separate issues, trucks, buses and taxis are involved in the road closures which have stranded commuters relying on public transport to get to work.
The trucking industry is reportedly striking throughout the province as drivers protest the employment of foreign drivers.
The localised road closures appear to be continued agitation over the incarceration of more than 30 protesters who were arrested on Monday.
Police officers are on high alert and have been deployed to all affected areas.
