State calls for direct imprisonment for Zephany kidnapper

NATIONAL NEWS - The State has called for direct imprisonment in the case of the woman who kidnapped Zephany Nurse.

Closing arguments in the trial against the Lavender Hill woman concluded in the Western Cape high Court today.

The 52-year-old woman was found guilty of kidnapping, fraud and contravening sections of the Children’s Act.

She however maintains her innocence.

State prosecutor Evadne Kortje has called for a 15-year jail sentence, part of which will be suspended.

Kortje believes imprisonment is appropriate in this matter. The prosecution told the court the convicted kidnapper has shown no remorse.
