KNYSNA NEWS - The fire that was burning just outside Rheenendal earlier today, Monday 21 June, has been brought under control.
Lauren Reynders, head of communications for the Rheenendal Fire Management Unit (FMU), indicated that the fire was burning to the north/north-east of Rheenendal this morning.
The fire was reported a few hours ago and crews from the Rheenendal FMU, Knysna Fire & Rescue Department and PG Bison all responded to the scene. Their swift response and concerted efforts to battle the fire have seen it brought under control in double-quick time.
"The fire is now under control and the crews have left the scene, but a monitoring team will remain on site overnight to continue monitoring the situation," Reynders confirmed.
She also said the fire that was reported to be burning in a PG Bison plantation on the Kraaibosch side was a 'non-event'.
