KNYSNA NEWS - Zoran Meyer (12) is setting his sights on the South African Junior National Tennis Championships, following his recent win in the Eastern Cape Super 8 American Express tournament in Qgeberha.
Zoran made history last week by defeating David Hobson from Gauteng in the final.
This victory marks the first time a player from the Knysna or Plettenberg Bay region has won a Super 8 event, the second biggest junior tournament in South Africa after the national championships.
Zoran, who attends Oakhill School, is currently the number one ranked U12 player in South Africa and aims to become the first player from the area to win a junior national title.
He is based at the Olsen Tennis Academy in Plettenberg Bay.
An all-round player, Zoran is known for his speed around the court and a lethal forehand, allowing him to compete aggressively against the country's best.
Nothing is impossible
"The team firmly believes Zoran has the potential to win his first national event and everything possible is being done to support his development. With his work ethic, commitment and belief, nothing is impossible", said Luke Olsen of the academy.
"Zoran's achievement is massive, not just for him but for the entire region. He's shown that players from Knysna and Plettenberg Bay can compete with and beat the best in the country.
This is only the beginning for him. We wish him all the best for the junior national championships in April."
