KNYSNA NEWS - The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is carrying out a blood donation drive in Knysna today, Monday 26 September, and now's your chance to donate blood and possibly save people's lives.
The drive will take place in the hall at St George's Anglican Church, in Unity Street, this afternoon and evening. The doors will open at 14:00 and will run up until 19:00, through load-shedding.
Donation usually takes 30 minutes, and blood donors are asked to eat a balanced meal three to four hours before donating. You should also increase your fluid intake before and after your blood donation.
The WCBS' blood stock levels are currently at a sufficient level, with seven of the eight blood groups at enough stock to last five days - only O- isn't at 100%, with four days' blood stock level.
The O blood group is the universal blood group. O- can be transfused to all blood groups and O+ can be transfused to all positive blood groups. The Western Cape Blood Service aims to maintain a blood stock level of five days for each blood group.
