Motorists travelling in the area should be aware of various road closures and the need for caution on several open routes.
This update provides the latest information on road conditions, including closures, necessary precautions, and ongoing repairs to ensure the safety of all travellers.
- Oudtshoorn to De Rust: The road is open.
- Meirings Poort: The road remains closed until further notice due to extensive construction work. Significant repairs are underway, including the rebuilding of sections of the road and addressing hazardous ditches formed along the riverbanks. These conditions pose a danger to motorists, necessitating the closure.
- Swartberg Pass: The road is open; however, motorists are advised to drive with caution.
- Cango Caves: The Cango Caves Road is open. Motorists are advised to drive with caution as there are still rock falls.
- Cango Mountain Resort: R328 – The road leading to the Cango Mountain Resort is open (one lane). Motorists are advised to drive carefully as the road is not in good condition.
- Noord Street: The road is closed due to flooding.
Low Water Bridges: Avoid crossing at Church, Van Der Riet, Albert, and Rademeyer Streets due to strong water flow. Motorists are warned to avoid using these roads as it is hazardous for both pedestrians and vehicles. The Municipal Roads Department will assess all these low bridges before reopening.
Rooiheuwel Road to Karoo Lusern: (Divisional Road 1684, connecting to Divisional Road 1692 Dysselsdorp and also TR 33/3) - The low water bridge is damaged and remains closed to the public due to structural damage caused by heavy rain and flooding.
