GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The end of 2022 is upon us as the sun has risen on the final day of the year. Tonight will be one of celebrations, but as is often the case, with New Year's Eve comes heightened criminal activity.
In an effort to provide you with some NYE safety tips, we've roped in the help of Allsound Security Managing Director Declan Nurse, who below lays out some very useful information to ensure you have a great but safe time tonight.
"These tips are based on our experience of the predominant types of crime and modus operandi of crimes reported to Allsound Security," he said.
Over to you now, Declan:
A night out on the town
- If possible, make use of local taxi / shuttle services rather than walking home late at night
- If you must, preferably walk in groups, taking care not to leave friends lagging behind
- Keep valuables concealed while walking and ladies strap your bags across your bodies
- Be aware of people who may be following you (criminals generally operate in groups and may split up by walking on opposite sides of the road)
At the clubs and pubs
- Do not leave cell phones and wallets visibly exposed in back pockets
- Handbags with flaps should be worn with flaps facing inwards to avoid the accidental bump and remove technique
Vehicle safety
- Regardless of where you park or for how long, do not leave anything visible in your vehicles
- Jackets, bags, luggage, GPS’s etc should all be removed from vehicles
"Allsound Security wishes all our visitors a safe and memorable New Year in Knysna," Nurse concluded.
