* To the Food Hut in Woodmill Lane, Knysna for no longer using polystyrene to package their sandwiches.
* To the Knysna Marathon Club. Thank you for the assistance with the Fun Day and also for the wonderful donation of R2 600 to Epilepsy SA.
* To Hedges Garden Centre for donating an assortment of plants to Epilepsy SA.
* To AJ at Leisure Industries for cutting Epilepsy SA's timber for trellis material at no charge.
* To the Knysna Municipal Water Department for a very prompt and efficient service to stop a minor water leak. It was reported at 11:00 and all sorted out by 16:00.
* To Ian Uys of the Knysna Ratepayers' Association. Yes, we need new brooms in council (refer to the letter, Ratepayers Want New Brooms in Knysna-Plett Herald, July 23). Keep it up.
* To everybody involved for their prompt reply and humane action in mercifully putting down a cow. On Wednesday, July 22 an employee on her way to Kamdebo Gardens discovered an unconscious, but still-breathing cow, on the N2 some 50m to the East of Bokmakierie Road, Old Place. She noticed unusual tyre marks on the edge of the ditch and spotted the cow through the shrubbery. She alerted staff and residents of Kamdebo Gardens. Within minutes of it being reported, the police, traffic department, and law enforcement officers arrived. Animal welfare representatives immediately phoned a vet. After the vet's arrival, a gunshot was heard by residents, signifying that the cow had been mercifully put down. The body was later removed.
