KNYSNA NEWS - Six Grade 6 learners from Thembelitsha Primary School in Concordia emerged victorious in the first round of a curriculum-based competition where they competed against learners from other schools in the Eden and Central Karoo education district.
The competition, which focused on literacy, story-writing and maths, was held at Pacaltsdorp Primary School in George on 17 May.
In August, the talented Thembelitsha Primary learners - Zana Amyolise, Asanda Gadebe, Inako Chaza, Bhuku Zibusiso, Sibande Blessings and Stemele Lime - will take part in the second round in Cape Town, competing against the other first-round winners in the Western Cape education districts.
The competition is being run by the Growsmart Educational Programme in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Education.
"The school is very proud of the learners, because it was the first time they had entered a competition like this.
"We are hopeful that they will win the second round, as we [teachers] are working with them [learners] to improve their skills, so they are well prepared for it," said Grade 6 teacher Vuyiseka Mavuso.
