She Builds Communities launches with vision to empower entrepreneurs and strengthen local communities

PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - From a collective vision to create opportunities for underprivileged communities and individuals to thrive, She Builds Communities was formed.

This newly established community development organisation, founded by four ambitious local businesswomen, officially launched in conjunction with Women's Day at the Forest Gate on the outskirts of town on Saturday 8 August.

The founders described the launch as a resounding success and an important first step towards creating opportunities, restoring hope and strengthening communities through entrepreneurship, skills development and collaboration.

From a support group to a growing initiative
She Builds Communities has been operating for the past two months. What began as a small support group has developed into a registered initiative focused on creating opportunities and sustainable community development.

Its mission is to connect people with opportunities, knowledge, mentorship and partnerships that promote entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, leadership, wellness and sustainable economic development.

More than a celebration
The Women's Day Pedal Experience served as the organisation's official launch and a fundraising and networking initiative combining wellness, entrepreneurship and community empowerment.

The event included a social pedal experience, inspirational speakers, business and financial empowerment sessions, networking, entertainment, raffles, prizes and goodie bags.

The funds raised will support selected informal businesses through practical resources such as equipment, stock, tools, branding, mentorship and skills development, rather than cash. The founders said the goal is to help entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses and create employment opportunities.

Building stronger communities

Founder Ncumisa Madikane said the organisation reflects her commitment to uplifting young people, creating hope and encouraging individuals to create opportunities for themselves. She said the launch demonstrated the power of women working together towards a shared vision.

Nomnikelo 'Nicky' Namntu said seeing women connect, gain confidence and feel inspired was a highlight of the event, and added that the organisation aims to create lasting opportunities beyond individual events.

For Boitumelo Pitso, the clearing skies after a gloomy morning became symbolic of the organisation's journey. She said the experience reinforced her belief that She Builds Communities has a bigger vision that can positively impact many lives.

Pitso left her job three years ago to pursue entrepreneurship and establish a travel agency, describing the journey as choosing purpose and happiness over financial security.

While Anelisa Fete said the event created an inclusive space that has often been lacking in the town, allowing women from previously disadvantaged communities to connect, learn, celebrate and feel a sense of belonging.

She said the response highlighted the need for more initiatives of this kind, with plans for a bigger event and further partnerships to expand their impact.

The four founders - Madikane, Pitso, Namntu and Anelisa Fete - concluded that the launch marks the beginning of their vision to inspire collaboration, create opportunities and build stronger communities.
