KNYSNA NEWS - The Thembelitsha Primary School teacher facing multiple charges of sexual assault appeared briefly in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Friday 12 April.
The teacher is out on R7 000 bail and has been suspended by the department of education pending an investigation that runs concurrently with the criminal case.
State prosecutor Zukile Mqulo proposed that the matter be deferred for further consultation and obtaining of statements.
The defence lawyer, Carl Jeppe, objected to the request stating his client was charged six months ago and that on previous appearances the state proposed postponements because of outstanding statements and consultations.
"The investing officer is not properly attending to the matter at all," Jeppe said. "The matter should be struck off the roll. When the investigation is ready, bring back it back to court," he added.
Magistrate Leonore Swarts postponed the matter to 23 May.
