PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The New Horizons housing project, a contentious development for several years now, is taking shape with major work getting underway recently.
Housing for this community on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay has been a disputed issue for several years. After having lobbied for housing in the area for some two decades, residents began with protest action in 2018.
Since then, protests about delays in getting a housing development off the ground have sporadically broken out.
The municipality finally acquired a portion of land in Ebenezer in October 2019 and it was earmarked for the construction of about 1 500 houses.
Portion 20 in Ebenezer had been purchased in 2016 and it is on this land that the housing development started in February this year.
The Bitou Municipality announced last week that several projects on Portion 20 got underway recently. These include internal engineering services, electrical bulk services, storm water infrastructure and related road maintenance in Geelhout Street and switching substation in Saringa Road.
More work is expected to commence in the near future.
Progress is being made on Portion 20 of the New Horizons housing project.
