PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A recent survey done by the Plett Tourism Association has revealed that the local tourism industry is starting to recover, with most players indicating that they saw medium to high growth over the past festive season.
The sectors that saw high growth included accommodation, restaurants and tourism services, while other sectors such as tourism activities and retail saw medium growth.
The survey also revealed that a new type of traveller is emerging, with most establishments noting domestic visitors - especially young couples and couples with children - visiting the coastal holiday town.
"The good performance is attributable to many factors, including a push by regional and provincial tourism to attract more domestic tourists' movement, and an increase for the desire to travel after a three-year pandemic hiatus," said Plett Tourism Association chief executive Patty Butterworth.
"Lastly, the innovative marketing programmes conducted by individual businesses, and our own destination marketing, has allowed for increased visibility of Brand Plett. The communication platforms we use, the variety of festivals and events and the launch of new products have all contributed to increased awareness."
