KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna community was shocked and outraged upon learning that a prominent ANC member and former SAMWU leader was released on bail after being charged with rape on 14 February.

The decision has sparked widespread condemnation and concern among local activists, who argue that it poses a significant risk to public safety. 

The incident has ignited a debate surrounding the judicial system's handling of sensitive cases and the need for greater protection for victims of sexual assault. 

The hearing for the case was postponed to 20 March, prolonging the wait for justice for the alleged victim. The accused was granted bail of R3000, enabling release pending the trial. 

Members of the Knysna community, including activists and concerned residents, have expressed their discontent and concern over the decision to grant bail, arguing that it undermines the seriousness of the crime and sends a distressing message to survivors of sexual assault.
