PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Local garden lovers can look forward to the next Plett Open Garden Day when the Plett Animal Welfare Service (Paws) celebrates the 10th anniversary of the annual event.
Four lovely gardens will be showcased on Saturday 12 November, against the backdrop of Plett's spectacular views over mountains, lagoon and ocean.
The event always attracts a large number of visitors from the Garden Route, even from as far afield as George.
In 2020, despite a nasty cold wind, over 250 visitors enjoyed the day, contributing R40 000 to Paws. Organiser Marsja Hall-Green said: "It is very satisfying to note that people remain interested in this popular event, and I look forward to welcoming our visitors and sharing an enjoyable day with them."
Ouland Royale, on the Airport Road, will again partner with the Plett Animal Welfare Service to host their Paws Plant and Cake Sale. Quality nursery plants, at affordable prices, will be on sale.
The impressive selection of home-baked cakes and other items includes the traditional, beautifully decorated fruit cake and other Christmas treats that are always a sell-out. Visitors will be able to enjoy coffee, tea and scones at Ouland between visiting gardens.
"I love organising this outdoor event every year because of the pleasure we all derive from viewing beautiful gardens, and of course, we raise much-needed funds to allow PAWS to continue its important work of providing a primary health care service to the neglected cats and dogs in our community," Hall-Green said.
The four featured gardens are: Du Plessis Garden, corner of Longstone and Beachy Head Drive; Wood and Van Straaten Gardens (two), Whale Rock Ridge Estate; and Fichardt Garden, Brackenridge Estate. Maps at main entrances to the two estates.
Gardens are open from 10:00 to 16:00. There are tickets available to view all gardens, bought on the day at all gardens and at Ouland. Maps are available at the gardens as well as at Barney's Info Kiosk in Market Square from Monday 7 November onwards.
