KNYSNA NEWS - The principal of Knysna Primary School, Ivor White, says the approximately 105 new Grade 1 learners who started "Big School" at KPS on Wednesday 15 January, have started "a special year of growth and progress".
"Grade 1 could be a real mix of excitement and dreadful anticipation for our new Grade 1 learners as the 'Big School' could easily be perceived as a scary, unfamiliar, yet wonderfully noisy place where a whole new world filled with new routines, expectations and adventures awaits them.
"It also marks an exciting and critical stage in their educational journey, as it sets the foundation for more advanced and structured learning," he says.
'Building essential skills'
"At this stage, learners are transitioning from an early childhood education environment into more formal school setting, where the focus is on building essential skills in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, and social development.
"Knysna Primary School views this transition as an opportunity to foster a love of learning, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
'Fun, motivation'
"Our teachers aim to create a nurturing, stimulating and fun-filled environment where each child feels supported, valued, and motivated to reach their full potential.
"With a focus on both academic growth and emotional development, Grade 1 learners are guided to explore new concepts, express themselves confidently, and develop a positive attitude towards their school and its values-based approach.
'Responsibility, self-discipline'
"At Knysna Primary School, we believe that these little ones' formative year is key in laying the foundation for lifelong learning and aims to cultivate a sense of independence, responsibility, self-discipline and resilience in each learner, all the while having fun doing so.
"Ultimately, it's a time filled with new experiences, challenges, and triumphs. For both children and their families, it's a special year of growth and progress!"
