KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Primary School's class of 2020 has, like many of the school's final-year classes preceding them, gone on to reach great leadership heights in high school.
Of the class of 2020, Sebastian Swart (17) is the head boy of Knysna High School for 2025, Zaskia Strydom (17) is the head girl of Knysna High School for 2025, Nicci Barnard (17) is the head girl of Woodridge College, near Gqeberha, for 2025, Michael Smith (17) is the head boy of Grey High School, in Gqeberha, for 2025, and Melo Hlangani is the deputy head boy of Glenwood House School, in George, for 2025.
A further 21 members of the school's class of 2020 have received other leadership roles at high schools for 2025.
'Very versatile'
Sebastian's mother, Desireé, said of his achievement: "We're so very chuffed, he's very versatile, with his academics and sport." Sebastian has earned provincial colours in biathlon, cycling and swimming.
Zaskia's mother, Annalize, said of her: "I am incredibly proud of my daughter for being named head girl of Knysna High School for 2025. This achievement is a testament to her hard work, determination, and leadership skills. From a young age, she has shown a remarkable commitment to her goals, consistently pushing herself to excel academically and personally."
'Taught her to be humble'
Nicci's mother, Jolene, said "I'm very excited for her, I'm very proud. We've always taught her to be humble and to have humility, and I think that has taken her far. She was also head girl of Knysna Primary".

'He's just who he is'
Michael's mother, Dominique, said "I'm absolutelyNicci Barnard. blown away and extremely excited. Most special about it (Michael becoming head boy) is he's just who he is - he's passionate about his school, and for being seen for who you are, not for what you do".
Dominique said three learners from Knysna Primary School had previously been made head boy of Grey High School.

'Beacon of light'
"I have so much love and passion for the school. They are a beacon of light on the Garden Route. I have so much respect for the staff. They help them (learners) to be confident, and have a great ethos," she said.
The principal of Knysna Primary School, Ivor White said: "At Knysna Primary we take a different view and approach to developing leadership skills amongst our learners.

"We acknowledge that there are many different views and opinions on what 'leadership' at primary school level is.
'Inclusive environment'
"We also need to remember that we are working with young children who are continuously discovering and realising their talents, skills and abilities.

"The ultimate goal for us, is to enhance our learners' academic and personal growth while cultivating responsible and empathetic individuals who can make a positive and lasting contribution throughout their high school years.
