KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality has intensified its public safety operations in the CBD and along public roads in response to the ongoing problems involving stray animals, street loitering and the unlawful occupation of public spaces.

The municipality said these intensified operations over the past two weeks had made "significant progress" in addressing these challenges and improving safety for residents and visitors.

As part of the increased operations, public safety has extended its working hours. The early shift now starts at 05:00, two hours earlier than before, while the late shift will continue until 20:00, two hours later than the previous 18:00 closing time.

The operations are focused on managing stray animals that pose a potential hazard to motorists and pedestrians, addressing loitering and people sleeping in front of businesses, and restoring order in the CBD.

Public safety teams will also focus on reclaiming public spaces being used for criminal or other unlawful activities.

The municipality said the intensified operations would continue while it investigates longer-term measures to address the underlying problems. "We are in a building phase, and while meaningful change takes time, we ask you to trust the process," the municipality said.

It appealed to residents and businesses to remain patient and to co-operate with public safety officials as efforts continue to develop sustainable solutions aimed at creating a safer and more orderly environment.
