KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Primary School has achieved sporting success in pupil selections for national and inter-district events.
Two pupils Whelan Maxim (13) of Plettenberg Bay and Jordan Huisamen (13) of Knysna, both in Grade 7, have been included in the South Western Districts under-13 squad for the Craven Week rugby tournament, which will be held in Pretoria from 16 June to 21 June.
"I'm proud of the boys. It's an extensive process they go through to make the Craven Week side - Knysna town trials, then the Knysna-Plett, Sedgefield regional trials, then it's SWD round one and two," the coach of the school's under-13A team, Tiaan Terblanche, said.
"Then they went to Worcester for the final round of trials, and SWD took 67 boys there (for them)."
Games livestreamed
He said parents and Knysna and Plettenberg Bay residents could watch all the games played in Pretoria, which will be livestreamed on the SuperSport schools app.
Jordan, who plays at inside centre, is looking forward to playing against the Blue Bulls side, which beat SWD in the semi-finals last year.
"I've been waiting for this for a while (playing in Craven Week). It's going to be tough, it's going to be physical," he said.
"We want to get revenge against them (Blue Bulls), and beat them."
Whelan, an openside flank, said he was anticipating a hard game against the Cheetahs.
'Going to be tough'
"I'm kind of scared about playing against the Cheetahs, but I'm going to be tough," he said.
Jordan said when in high school he hoped to make the regional school squad, and Whelan said he aimed to become a professional player and represent the Springboks.
Aneeqa Loxton, 12, a Grade 6 pupil at the school, went through a similar selection process to make the Eden district under-12 netball team, which will take part in the Western Cape Schools Netball Inter-District Tournament to be held from 3 to 6 July in Riversdale.
Phelo Magudlwa, 13, a Grade 7 pupil from Knysna, and the multitalented Whelan, have been selected for the Eden hockey under-13A boys' team to take part in inter-district championships, held in Bloemfontein on 23 and 24 June, and Mila Sixholo, a Grade 7 pupil from Knysna, has made Eden hockey's under-13A girls' team to compete in the same tournament.

'Very excited'
Grade 6 pupil Ano Norani, 13, of Knysna, has been picked for Eden hockey's boys' under-13B team, to participate in inter-district championships in Paarl.
The school's under-11A rugby team, coached by teacher Juandre Digue, is to take part in this year's edition of the Under-11 Aloe Cup, to be held in Jeffreys Bay from 13 to 15 June.
Twelve teams from across the country will be in action at the event, held at Jeffreys Bay Primary School.
"I'm very excited. I can't wait to see how they perform against the best," Digue said.
