KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Education Trust (KET) recently hosted a health and safety workshop, bringing together key representatives from the department of fire and safety and the department of health.
The workshop, held on Monday 24 March, provided principals of local early childhood development (ECD) facilities with the unique opportunity to hear directly from the government departments that regulate their operations.
Important updates
"Our aim is to assist principals in understanding government regulations to ensure the safety of children, as well as to protect their preschools from any potential incidents," said Nella Gysman, programme manager at Ket.
"Having these representatives present allows principals to hear important updates first-hand and ask questions where they need clarity.
"As a non-profit organisation, Ket is dedicated to creating thriving, safe environments for young children in Knysna's municipal region."
Working closely with the Department of Social Development and the Western Cape Department of Education, Ket has played a huge role in developing healthy, effective learning environments at local ECD facilities.
Financial stability
Gysman said the two departments trust Ket as their link to ECD and aftercare facility principals.
"By funding our registration department, they ensure we have the resources to help each facility in the Knysna municipality navigate the rigorous registration process.
"Once registered, KET will further support these facilities by assisting them in applying for government funding, ensuring financial stability for these important institutions."
This collaborative approach helps create stronger, more resilient ECD facilities, giving children the best possible foundation for their education and future.
