KNYSNA NEWS - After numerous complaints about the mess left at the post office in Main Road, it appears that municipal police have now stepped in to help manage the situation.
Residents have complained on numerous occasions about the litter and personal items homeless people have been leaving in front of the post office in the morning after overnighting there.
Homeless people had also slept on a platform at the entrance to the post office and some of them had resisted attempts to move them from there in the morning when the post office opened.
The litter in front of the building included empty food containers, product wrapping, decaying food and cardboard on which homeless people slept, and personal items such as blankets, bags and suitcases that had been left behind.
Awful smell In addition, complaints have been made about these people using an area in front of the post office building as a “toilet”, causing a stench to emanate from the site.
"One day there was a terrible mess at the entrance (to the building), and the smell coming from the building was awful," said a resident, who did not want to be identified.
"This should not be happening in the street." Municipal police On Wednesday 2 April, Knysna-Plett Herald sent a request for comment about the litter complaints to the municipality.
The resident has since said that municipal police had reportedly been preventing homeless people from sleeping in front of the building, and that street cleaners had been cleaning the entire area. When a response is received from the municipality, it will be published.
