Electrical explosion victim dies

KNYSNA NEWS - Reinhardt Graff (64), one of the two MDL Electrical contractors who was critically injured in an electric explosion at a power substation in the industrial area of Knysna, has died.

Graff’s son Warren confirmed on Monday, June 27, that his father passed away in the intensive care unit of the Life Knysna Private Hospital on Friday morning, June 24 at 07:30 .

Reinhardt Graff and his colleague William Thayi were working at the station when a power box exploded just after noon on Monday, June 14.

They were rushed to hospital with severe burns.

Graff was well known in George and surroundings and played rugby for Blanco up to the age of 43.

A memorial service will be held for Reinhardt at Tramonto Venue, Geelhoutboom Road George on Saturday, July 2 at 10:00. He leaves behind his wife Jennifer and two sons, Lee and Warren.

According to a close friend Thayi, who was also treated in the intensive care unit, is still in hospital, but out of ICU.

The investigation into what happened to cause the explosion is still underway.
