SEDGEFIELD NEWS - The town is mourning the death of Zwaai Kruger (59), a long-standing community member and past district governor of the Lions District 410D, who passed away after a battle with illness.
Kruger, a member of the Sedgefield Lions Club, was widely respected for his commitment to serving others and was remembered by friends and fellow Lions for his intelligence, generosity and sharp sense of humour.
Shelley Vorster, a fellow Lions member, described him as a friend of profound intellect, deep principle, immense loyalty and great fun. "His commitment to service extended well beyond his involvement in the Lions. He regularly used his professional expertise to assist people in need and was known to provide legal advice and assistance without expecting payment. For him, service was not about recognition or reward, but about making a difference in the lives of others. His level-headed approach, wisdom and willingness to share his expertise made him a respected member of the Lions leadership family," Vorster said.
His Lions leadership career included serving as district governor of District 410D during 2016/17, while he also contributed his knowledge and experience to the MD410 Council.
In a statement, the Sedgefield Lions described him as always sharp-witted and quick to laugh, adding that his sense of humour and daily Facebook posts would be sorely missed. "His humour was more than entertainment. It was part of the way he connected with people, eased difficult moments and brought light to those around him. Even while facing health challenges, those close to him remembered his ability to find something positive and make people smile.
Kruger was deeply proud of both his Lions Club and Sedgefield. The friendships and fellowship he developed through the organisation became an important part of his life and extended family. His death has left a deep void for his wife, Carrie, his daughters and son, grandchildren, extended family and friends, as well as the Sedgefield Lions Club and wider Lions family."
MD410 Council chairperson Geila Wills extended her condolences to the family.
