KNYSNA NEWS - Has society become so criminal that even churches have to start fencing off their property? This might just be the case in Knysna.
Many motorists who use Knysna's Main Road on a daily basis have noticed the large spiked fence being erected around St George's Anglican Church by now, and might also be confused as to why the church is going to such lengths to secure the grounds.
The church grounds are a favourite of some residents who enjoy viewing the old graves or who go for a leisurely stroll through the beautiful garden. That might soon come to an end when the fencing is completed.
A theft from the church's rose garden last year, and the continuous use of the grounds by the homeless or vagrants might be the reason for this. The church itself has opted not to comment as to the reason for the fencing, and other churches around Knysna who were contacted either do not want to comment, or say they do not experience the same problems that St George's might experience.
