KNYSNA NEWS - Thirteen aspirant medical students from Concordia High School, Percy Mdala High School and Knysna Secondary School were given an exciting chance by the Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching (Kilt) to partake in the programme from 5 July to 7 July.
Through an engaging work-shadowing experience at Knysna Provincial Hospital, the prospective medical students were completely immersed in the medical field for three days.
They looked through the X-ray department and the operating room and emergency centre, learning enough assist them in planning their university route.
The students are a part of Kilt's three-year Tertiary Launch Programme, which provides guidance to young people from Grade 11 through their first year of university. Support is essential throughout these critical academic years.
The programme was initiated in 2020 to assist learners in making informed choices regarding their future.

The Tertiary Launch Programme mentors top-performing Grade 11 and Grade 12 students who meet requirements such as having mathematics as a core subject and either physical science or accounting as an elective, scoring at least 40% in mathematics and physical science/accounting, and planning a career in agriculture, food, natural resources, architecture and construction, business and finance, education and training, health science, information technology and science, technology and engineering.
The programme currently assists 60 Grade 11 and 12 learners from three Knysna no-fee schools participating and seven post-matrics.
These learners are encouraged to maintain or improve their grades and will remain in the project up until the end of their first year at university.
