PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A local pilot suffered a broken leg after his microlight aircraft crashed on landing at Plettenberg Bay airport at 19:10 on Saturday 13 December.
According to a press release by Bitou Municipality, that that manages the airport, the pilot was taken to hospital by ambulance for medical care.
“The incident has been reported to the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA),” read the statement. “We are waiting for more instructions about the removal of the microlight from the site. The municipality notes with regret that this unfortunate incident is alleged to have been the result of a pilot error.”
The Aquilla microlight is a popular South African-made ultralight, open-cockpit aircraft. It is essentially a powered hang glider that is known for its freedom of flight, and referred to as the “ motorbike of the sky”.
