KNYSNA NEWS - Faced with growing public frustration over the deteriorating state of roads across the town, Knysna Municipality says it is stepping up efforts to repair potholes, reinstate damaged roads and rehabilitate gravel roads affected by recent storms.
The municipality issued a statement last week acknowledging an increasing number of complaints and requests for urgent repairs as road conditions continue to worsen in many parts of Knysna.
Residents have repeatedly raised concerns about potholes on major routes, residential streets and even sections of the N2 passing through the town, with some neighbourhood roads now resembling gravel tracks more than tarred surfaces.
The municipality said two grader units, supported by water trucks and compactors, have been deployed to maintain gravel roads, while additional road repair materials have been procured to speed up pothole repairs and the reinstatement of roads affected by burst pipe repairs.
Recent storms have further compounded the problem, causing slope failures that damaged sections of the municipal road network.
According to the municipality, a process is under way to appoint an engineering service provider to assess the extent of the damage and recommend measures to stabilise and repair affected roads.
Residents can report infrastructure-related issues to the Infrastructure Services Helpdesk on 044 302 6331 or 044 302 6334.
