GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Many of us are gearing up for the festive season as we plan our routes and fill up our vehicles for the long roads. 

We can’t wait to arrive at our destination to just kick back for a few days with friends and family. 

The Blood Service, however, will be entering one of its most difficult collection periods.

Stock levels in the Western Cape tend to decline during the festive season due to our regular clinics such as at corporates and factories being closed over this period. 

Even for regular blood donors it might not be top of mind and they might not know where to donate during the holidays.

We would, therefore, like to appeal to all holidaymakers and all our regular donors to find a blood donation drive near your holiday destination.

To aid the search we have launched our WP Blood app to make finding a venue easier for everyone. Download the app for free from all iOS and Android app stores.

Donation takes 30 minutes of your time every 56 days. It requires you to be between the ages of 16 and 65, weigh over 50kg, be in good general health and lead a safe sexual lifestyle. 

It does not cause you any bodily harm, since only 475ml of blood is taken, which is replaced within 24 hours.

The service wishes to thank all our blood donors for your support during 2017.

We hope that you enjoy the festive season and remember that the best holiday drive this season will be a blood drive.
