KNYSNA NEWS - The Rotary Club of Knysna recently inducted its 57th president, Mike Mills. Mike takes over from Doug Emanuel who was president for 2017 to 2018.
Sue Mills has taken over the presidency of the Rotary Anns from Fern Emanuel.
Sue and Mike are well known in Knysna circles and have been involved in the upliftment of our community for many years. This will be Mike's second term of presidency – he was president in 2004 to 2005.
With the proceeds from the club's fundraisers (the Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour, its annual Golf Weekend and the Splash festivals), the club manages its many ongoing community projects which include bursaries, supporting preschools, community organisations and schools, sport activities and soup kitchens.
The club's activities of this last year were largely affected by the fires Knysna experienced in June 2017.
The club was given almost R5-million for disbursement to fire victims. Donors were other Rotary clubs, individuals and companies. Food, clothes, furniture and household goods were sent and distributed. Vouchers from local shops and suppliers (often with generous discounts) helped victims to re-establish homes and businesses.
This fire relief project was given the "Best Project of the District" award for 2017 to 2018.
