PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A local man has allegedly stabbed his friend to death following an altercation.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie said a preliminary investigation revealed that the 23-year-old suspect, armed with a knife and a panga, arrived at the home of his friend, Dewaan van der Beyl (23), in Kurland on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay on Saturday 9 October.
He allegedly found Van der Beyl in his yard at about 17:00.
"The victim and the suspect, who are friends, seemed to have had some kind of difference and without warning, the suspect stabbed the unarmed victim in the neck with the knife," Pojie said.
Following the attack, the suspect allegedly threw the knife and the panga down at the scene and fled on foot, but he was arrested shortly after the incident and is being held at the Plettenberg Bay police holding cells.
He is expected to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court this week and is expected to be charged with murder.
"The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated. An autopsy will be performed on the body of the deceased to determine the cause of death," said Pojie.
