KNYSNA NEWS - At 14:22, Saturday, 23 September, NSRI Knysna duty crew were activated following reports of the boat Rumkat 1, with 2 men onboard, capsized on the Knysna Lagoon, in the channel between the SANParks offices and Brenton on Lake.
“We launched our NSRI Knysna sea rescue craft Jaytee IV, with coxswain Darren Berry, and crew, myself, Jerome Simonis, Berend Maarsingh and Theo Erasmus and the NSRI Knysna sea rescue craft Colorpress Rescuer, with coxswain Chris van Staden and crew, Emily Bruwer, Duncan Kane, Neil Steenkamp and Jean Swart,´said Jerome Simonis, NSRI Knysna station commander.
He said on arrival on the scene NSRI found the Knysna Charters ferry boat had gone to the men's aid and both adult men, from Port Elizabeth, were safe on the Knysna Charters ferry and the Knysna Charters ferry were towing the capsized boat to Thesen Island.
“At Thesen Island we confirmed that both men were not injured and we were able to right the casualty boat which we then towed to the Brenton on Lake slip way and the casualty boat was recovered and no further assistance was required,” said Simonis.
