KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Education Trust (KET) teamed up with Roger Bishop and Plumblink Knysna this year to supply and install an ablution facility for Siyafunda Preschool.
This project, which was launched around National Plumbing Day (11 March), was completed this month, with the facilities officially in use from Friday, 9 December.
KET is an NPO dedicated to the upliftment of education of preschool children from disadvantaged communities in Greater Knysna, and supports 63 preschools in the area.
Services and programmes implemented by the trust are geared towards these preschool facilities obtaining formal registration with the Department of Social Development, which will allow them to become sustainable, safe and happy places for young children to learn.
Siyafunda is a well-run preschool in Rhobololo, catering to preschoolers of the surrounding area of White Location.
The school currently cares for 92 children up to six years old.
Built in 2002, principal Ethel Sedibe has worked tirelessly to create a positive environment for these eager young minds to learn and grow.
KET programme manager Veranique de la Fontaine says, “Laying the right foundation right from the start represents a life-transforming opportunity for a child and an equality-promoting investment for society as a whole.”
One of the most basic amenities needed in any preschool is an ablution facility as well as running water.
In order to assist Siyafunda with this project the trust committed to funding for the external building structure, and Roger Bishop, a very kind and generous local plumber, supplied the labour and installed all the toilets at his own cost.
Plumblink kindly donated all the plumbing equipment needed to complete this wonderful project.
We would like to acknowledge and thank both Roger Bishop and Plumblink Knysna for their efforts in ensuring the long-term success of the school and providing this much-needed service to the young learners.
