KNYSNA NEWS - Each year the Grade 9 to 11 Knysna Montessori learners are invited to sign up for the unique experience of rafting on a river in South Africa, under the guidance of qualified tutor Anthony Campbell.
This adventure can be a life-changing experience for the participants, taking them out of their comfort zone and extending their boundaries.
It also gives the learners an opportunity to showcase their outdoor talents.
The chosen river this year was the Groot Brak, flowing from the Gariep Dam.
The 22km scenic paddle offers exhilarating rapids such as "Chuck Norris", "Gert se Perd", "Jacki Chang" and "Mother-in-Law" – to mention a few – for the rafters to negotiate and enjoy.
Anthony and his son Max are both fully qualified river-rafting guides, and believe every child should be given the opportunity to try something novel and "out of the box”.
This kind of experience allows students to make use of their natural built-in intuition, a human quality that many do not get a chance to put into practice.
