KNYSNA NEWS - The iconic Ile de Pain restaurant on Thesen Island was destroyed in a fire last night.
Fire fighters were on the scene from about 20:00 and managed to contain the fire at around 22:00.
The fire spread to the roof of the neighbouring Lofts Office block.
Tenants and business owners will assess the damage today.
Knysna mayor, Georlene Wolmarans was at the scene of the fire around 22:00 last night after she heard about it on Facebook.
She introduced Knysna-Plett Herald staff to fire chief Clinton Manuel. He said that he was satisfied the fire was contained. He had deployed all Knysna fire fighters, including 13 off-duty members. It took 3 fire engines to extinguish the fire.
