KNYSNA NEWS – Knysna Municipality in association with Madboy Artistry is searching for young talent in Knysna in preparation for the upcoming Ikamva Youth Film & Arts Festival.
The road to the festival will start with auditions during which aspirant actors and actresses will participate in various movie scenes that will be directed by Jovan Calvert. They are requested to prepare a 30-second script based on the brief.
"If they don't have a script of their own, one will be given to them to execute during the audition," said municipal spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhoudt in a press statement last week.
Musicians, rappers, dancers, singers and poets must prepare a one-minute performance. Their material must also be available on a CD or memory stick.
Writing competition
Bezuidenhoudt said those itching to share their stories can enter for the writing competition, as compelling stories will be used as production material for the festival. Age categories for the stories are 10 to 18 years and 19 to 35 years.
The age category must be clearly marked on the entries, which can be e-mailed to the director, Jovan Calvert, at madboyartistry@gmail.com. Hard copies may be dropped off at the municipal main building in Clyde Street. Entry boxes will also be available at the audition venues on audition days.
The closing date for the writer's competition is 19 June.
There will be four days of auditions for separate areas: on 27 May from 10:00 to 16:30 at the Hornlee Community Hall; on 28 May at the Khayalethu Community Hall from 10:00 to 16:30; on 2 June at the Smutsville Community Hall from 10:00 to 16:30; and on 3 June at the Rheenendal Community Hall from 10:00 to 16:30.
