PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - It is beyond reasonable doubt that Plett will be a hive of activity come March when 40 high-level international lawyers head to the coastal holiday town.
It will however not be for a courtroom appearance, but for a visit to the polo fields.
The ninth edition of Lawyers Polo is set to take place in Plett from 14 to 19 March and will see 40 high-level lawyers from 18 countries across the globe - all with a passion for polo - duke it out in an eight-team tourmanent.
"The diversity and growth of equestrian attractions and unique experiences in Plett is exciting," said Plett Tourism chief executive Patty Butterworth.
"The culture and legacy of polo plays a significant part of the tourism offering for Plett. One of the fundamentals of our destination marketing plan aims to connect Plett's world-class reputation to domestic and international niche markets.
"Plett has for a while been synonymous with polo."
She said the Plett Tourism team is excited to work with Plett Polo to make this internationally recognised tournament a success.
Lawyers Polo was started in 2008 by international arbitration lawyer Eduardo Bérèterbide, who said that "law and chivalry" were the two main components of the tournament and that the objective was to bring together lawyers who also love polo.
The 2022 event will be held at the Plett Polo Cub on the Kurland estate.
Before it came to Plett's shores, the tournament was held in Buenos Aires, Madrid, Toronto, Dubai, Paris, Bangkok, Sotogrande and Morocco.
Participants in this year's tournament come from Argentina, Austria, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Macao, Malaysia, Portugal, Slovakia, Singapore, Switzerland, Chile, Venezuela, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Lawyers Polo also supports the local communities in which the tournament is held. This year the beneficiaries include the Sabrina Love Foundation and the Plettenberg Bay Music Field Band, who will perform at Kurland ahead of the finals on 19 March.
The matches will be open to the public.
