KNYSNA NEWS - With the first step of the 2021 local government elections (LGE) having come and gone this past weekend in the form of the special votes, it's time to take note of the changes to voting stations in Knysna.
Knysna has 30 voting districts and voting stations within its 11 wards, while Bitou has 16 voting districts and voting stations within its seven wards. Bitou has made no changes to voting stations for the 2021 LGE, but Knysna has seen three changes.
In Ward 4, the voting station that was at Buffelsnek Primary School has moved to the Buffelsnek Community Hall. Next, in Ward 9, the station at Vineyard Church has been moved to the Loerie Park Clubhouse. Finally, in Ward 10, the voting station that was at Oakhill School has moved to the hall at the Knysna NG Kerk in Fitchat Street.
It is pertinent to remember that you will receive three ballots when you make your mark – one to elect the candidate you wish to act as the councillor to represent your ward in the town's council; one to elect a party for proportional representation (PR) of your ward in council; and one to cast your PR vote for the Garden Route District Municipality.
If you would like to find out which voting station you are registered at and thus where you have to cast your vote, you can use the Independent Electoral Commission's (IEC) online voting station finder – https://maps.elections.org.za/vsfinder/.
