BUSINESS NEWS - Local garden lovers can look forward to the next Plett Open Garden Day when the Plett Animal Welfare Service celebrates the 11th anniversary of this event.
Six lovely gardens will be showcased on Saturday 9 November, against the backdrop of Plett's spectacular views over mountains, lagoon and ocean.
This event always attracts a large number of visitors from the Garden Route, from as far afield as George. In 2022, despite wind and rain, over 300 visitors enjoyed the day, contributing R65 000 to PAWS.
Marsja Hall-Green, the organiser, said: "It is very rewarding that people continue to support this popular event, and PAWS looks forward to welcoming our visitors and sharing an enjoyable day with them. This year, we are placing some emphasis on sidewalk gardens and gardens that feature dramatic mature trees."
Ouland Royale, on the Airport Road, will again partner with PAWS to host their Plant and Cake Sale. Quality nursery plants, at affordable prices, will be on sale.
Home-baked cakes
The tempting selection of home-baked cakes, scones, biscuits, muffins and other items are usually sold out early in the day.
Visitors will be able to enjoy coffee, tea and scones at Ouland between visiting gardens.
Marsja says: "I enjoy organising this outdoor event because of the pleasure we all derive from viewing beautiful gardens, and of course, we raise much-needed funds to allow PAWS to continue its important work of providing a primary health care service to the neglected cats and dogs in our community."
Featured gardens are Harris garden, 24 Beachy Head Drive; two gardens at Whale Rock Heights Estate (directions at estate entrance, off Robberg Road) and Van Rooyen garden, 38 Hanoi Crescent.
Added bonus
This year PAWS have the added bonus of two sidewalk gardens at Brackenridge Estate (direction at estate entrance).
Gardens are open from 10:00 to 16:00. Entrance to view all gardens costs R200, paid on the day only at all gardens and at Ouland. Cash payment will be helpful.
