KNYSNA NEWS - Riverwood Primary School recently put on a wonderful adaptation of the musical Aladdin at the Knysna Kerk.
There are just under 100 children who attend Riverwood and each one was involved in the musical, which was performed on 22 and 23 September.
From Grade R to Grade 7 there were actors and actresses who filled their character roles beautifully.
Riverwood's aim in teaching drama is to give as many students as possible the opportunity to experience the fun, but also the educational benefits of learning and memorising lines, creativity, flexibility, verbal skills, and gaining confidence in front of an audience.
In this production there were six musical numbers. Again, the whole school worked together to create some beautiful sights and sounds.
Three of the pieces involved the entire school with each student singing, dancing and/or playing instruments. There were multiple solo opportunities given, especially to the older students, allowing them a chance to show off their voices.

The students learned to play different drumming patterns, chimes, bells, boomwhackers and many other percussion instruments. The experience helped them develop listening skills, co-ordination, teamwork and many other valuable skills.
Along with the Riverwood Primary School staff, the community gave much help with costumes, props, microphones, dances and more.
The school is very grateful to all involved who made the show a fabulous success.
