Asenathi and Roger just miss top 10 at world champs 29 February 2016 – Having led the fleet at the halfway mark, SA’s sailors had to settle for 11th spot when the 470 World Championships came to an end over the weekend.
Asenathi Jim and Roger Hudson were nevertheless pleased with 11th spot overall – their best world championships result to date and a vast improvement on previous years.
“We are very delighted especially in this year’s worlds as we build up to the [Olympic] Games,” Jim told World Sailing.
“I can say it is the right message to our competitors, and it is the right step for us to see what we can do with good equipment. It has given us more motivation of what we can do and where we need to work now.”
Referring to the new boat that they sailed, thanks to the National Lotteries Commission and SA Sailing, Hudson added: “Sure the boat has helped, but we have been training like crazy for a very long time and it is nice to be paying off.
