TENNIS NEWS - Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Lock won the Digicall Futures 3 tennis tournament at Maties Tennis Club on Sunday.
It was the last of the three international Futures tournaments played at the Coetzenburg courts of the Stellenbosch University.
The top seed battled against South African wildcard Ruan Roelofse in a very entertaining final. Lock won the match 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 after two hours and 35 minutes.
It is Lock’s second Futures title of 2018 and fifth overall.
There was a good crowd on the final day with Roelofse being the main draw card for the local fans. He gave his all and had the crowd on their feet a few times, but in the end it was third time’s a charm for Lock who struggled in the first two tournaments.
"It is great to end the year with a win. In general, it was a good year for me. I was in good form coming to Stellenbosch, but it just did not work out for me in the first two tournaments. I love playing in Stellenbosch,” commented Lock.
